I'm from out of town as a disclaimer. Overall the restaurant It was ok. The salsa tasted like it was from a jar however the chips were good. The cheese enchilada was pretty good. The beef tamale was dry. The beef burrito was fine. The charro beans were delicious. It was like everything came from a package rather than made fresh. Everything seemed pretty bland. I wouldn't recommend this place.

This is in comparison to other non-authentic faux Mexican Americanized restaurants. The space is ENORMOUS. There are several rooms with countless chairs and tables. I would never have guessed that Idaho Falls had the population to support such a large restaurant. We visited on a Monday evening around 9PM. There were probably around 10-15 parties of 4 or more scattered throughout. The greeter at the front desk was cordial, but not overly friendly. We were seated promptly. The table (and restaurant in general) was really clean. The table was well stocked with chips, tasty salsa, and bean dip. The server was moderately friendly, but he didn't over-exert himself by any means. The prices were decent. The menu items looked tasty - especially the pictures of the dessert options. From the time we ordered until the hot plates were delivered, maybe 15 minutes had passed. Not bad at all. I personally ordered the enchilada trio. Not authentic by a long shot. But the temperature and texture were great. I also appreciated the super liberal portion of melted cheese on all three enchiladas. The only thing I really detested (and I always do), was the inclusion of a mandatory gratuity for a larger party. I've removed one star for that ridiculous practice. I think you'd be more apt to receive a better tip of you'd let me decide upon the percentage based on your service and friendliness rather than on my party's size.

Went here with family last week and the decor was nice and the servers were good, but the food was overpriced and average Mexican food at best. Some of the plates we ordered were either soggy or bland. I got a fajita combination and they skimped on my chicken and beef; They gave me a few slivers of each. Overall it was alright but the food quality for the price puts it down to two stars, and we don't plan on ever returning.

This was a decent menu. There's typical "American" Mexican food, but they have a grilled selection too. I had fish tacos. They were three very sizable pieces of grilled fish, not fried, for 11.50. It was good. I liked that the fish was spicy. I could only eat two and I was full. I also got a giant mug of ice cold Dos Equis, two actually. Not super great, but it's a local place to go once and a while. I would recommend checking it out.

Darla in the bar/cantina has been the best server in town for years. That is the fun side of the restaurant. Great vibe from fellow customers. Beer is ice cold, margaritas are pretty, appetizers are cheesy, crunchy and delicious. This is a great choice for a fun after work get together.

3 stars is about spot on. Good atmosphere, chips and salsa (with Refried beans) are good. $10 margarita and 2 half melted slices of cheese on top of my pollo Monterey dinner left more to be desired. I would recommend chips and salsa with a beer and a classic, simple Mexican dish.

WOW. If you like sweet and cheesy, order the seafood fundido. The coronaritas are delicious, please order one, or three. Menu is also incredibly vast, you will find something that sounds delectable, and it will be.

I would say it was ok. Not my favorite but the staff was really nice and good about getting us seated quickly and making sure we were comfortable. Nothing on their menu really stood out to me though. My meal was alright and my husband did really like the chili verde he had in a burrito so when we left he made the comment that it was alright and I agree it was alright. Cool to try but not sure how often we will go back. They do have lots of space which was a nice surprise and would be great for large parties.

I have mixed reviews about this place. I've been a few times and well... Just as 3-stars is described "A-OK". It has never been mind blowing. I've read all the reviews on here, and the Food Poisoning claims seem a bit of a reach. Couple of notes to make on our visits: - complimentary food is awesome, but lacks the flavor. It's free, cannot really complain. - Staff has always done enough to get by. Never get too engaged in a conversation, just "a-ok". - The food I get usually is good. I tend to steer clear of spicy food, and every dish I've had was good. - The atmosphere, could totally use an update. Also, Top 40 music playing in a mexican restaurant is just weird! I would return, but it wouldn't be my first pick.

I will never go back here while the food is not to bad. The customer service is HORRIBLE. I tried giving then chances going back 5 6 7 time after the last time I went I was done. They are so rude. I will never step foot back in the restaurant.

I love Mexican food. I also enjoy American Mexican food. Garcias however, is a way to Americanized Mexican food restaurant. Probably the best food item at Garcias are the chips and salsa (which also come with complimentary bean dip, which is pretty good as well). However the rest of the food that I have tried has been pretty bland and lacks any real spiciness. On a very postive note the wait staff is very freindly and attentive. The atmospere is pleasant and inviting. I base 99% of my review on the food alone, so until yelp decides to come out with an exclusively service based review site, I'm going to have to settle for a 2 star review. There are too many other more authentic mexican restaurants and buses in Idaho Falls to justify coming back to this particular restaurant.

My wife had the fish tacos. More like cabbage tacos with a little fish. The rice is horrible. Like overcooked generic boxed rice with no flavor.

Have always loved the food. The fajitas are really good and the hot salsa has great flavor and heat

I worked at this location back in the day. Which was a Tuesday. Actually it wasn't, but it was like forever ago, before Y2K... yet the same micro-manager is still running the joint and I don't think much has changed since. The food? Average at best. The service? Meh. This place survives because of it's location and the fact that very few people in Idaho Falls know what Mexican food should taste like. That said, it's better than Taco Bell and the margaritas flow like wine.

Best mex I've had in a while. Ask for the red sauce on anything. Good and friendly staff, cold beer available in large size;). Can't go wrong

Garcia's is the worst restaurant I've eatin at. I was not aloud to do certain substations in my meal do to the manager. My server told me there would be a change in price, which I was more than ok with, I would pay. But no I ordered something else. I do not understand if someone is willing to pay the price why would you not do it to satisfy the customer. Not worth the waste of time.

Love this place! It is me and the ol lady's go to if we have a free night to go out to eat. Consistently good food and tasty drinks. I usually order the shrimp fundido (not on the menu) and am never disappointed but the combo fajitas are a great backup! Good feel, friendly service and tasty food!

The last time I went here, it was on my first date with my current boyfriend. We BOTH ordered the Pollo Fundido, and BOTH of us had food poisoning. There are better places to get Mexican food.

I have only been here once, when I first moved to the area 5 years ago. Food was not great compared to the real Mexican places in the area. I suggest going to a local place run by Mexicans not this chain since the food is far superior.

Garcia's is just barely mexican food. The biggest problem I have with the restaurant is that almost everything is fried. They give you unlimited chips, salsa and dipping beans, but the salsa and the beans are pretty plan tasting. Nothing is extremely bad tasting at this restaurant, but nothing is extremely good. The food is just blah. Not enough spices or heat. They do make decent margaritas so if you need a drink they have a nice bar area and drink specials. Overall, you stomach will be full after you finish eating here but you won't necessarily have a taste experience.

1 to 2 stars, as you would expect. First booth I sat in was dirty, moved to another. Soul-less salsa, even a whiteboy like me could make better. Got the fajita salad, good grilled chicken, over salted guac, but fresh. Off taste to the fried tortilla bowl (I know you aren't really supposed to eat it, but it should be edible). Very good, attentive service. If someone actually cared about the menu, the quality, the details, it would be easy to gain another star. Upper management/ownership seems uninterested.

I love trying new places, because you never know what you may find! This, unfortunately, was a bitter-sweet experience. A friend and I met for lunch and we were promptly seated and greeting by our waitress. She was very friendly and attentive to our needs. We were immediately served chips, salsa and re-fried bean dip. The chips were good and I enjoyed the bean dip well enough. Our food was brought out very fast. My friend had the chicken quesadilla, and I the Olivia's Platter. It's a combination platter with 2 mini shredded beef chimichangas, 2 mini ground beef tacos, 2 mini chicken taquitos, and 2 pollo fundito. The tacos were incredibly greasy, and only mildly tasty. I couldn't eat the other one on account of the grease. The rest of the food was edible, but I wasn't excited about anything I ate. I felt like I was eating frozen prepared food which had just been reheated and garnished. No complaints from my friend on the quesadilla. Now here's where I did get excited: For dessert they have (among other things) Chocolate Mini Chimis. These were nothing short of amazing. They were so incredibly rich - which can be good or bad depending on the person. But I loved 'em. If I wasn't in mixed company, I would have licked the plate clean. Yeah, they were that good. The worst part came a couple hours after I got home. I had the worst stomach ache I've ever had in my life (I'll spare you the details, lol). I don't think it was food poisoning, but I was out of commission for a good 3-4 hours, until I took some heavy-duty tummy medicine. I had nothing else to eat prior to or after lunch, so I'm not sure what else may have caused it. Overall, the quality of the food wasn't BAD, but it wasn't GREAT either. But the service was excellent and the place was very clean, although it was very slow (1:00pm-3:00pm on Saturday). My dessert was excellent though, so I gotta give credit where it's due. My advice: If you're looking for the best Mexican food in town for the same or less cost, go across the street to Jalisco's on 17th St. (NOT the other Jalisco's on River Parkway). Their food is amazing, authentic, fresh and very competitively-priced.

I definitely agree this is a fun typical Mexican fare place to go. Their hook is all you can eat bean dip and salsa. The salsa is good the bean dip is great. You can order a white queso with spinach that is excellent for $1.99. The food was good and fresh. We had 3 kids with us and the kids meals were great.

I have been to Garcia's dozen's of times and have always had a good time. The food is standard fare mexican-american food, but the restaurant is clean and well lit. The servers have always been courteous. It is a great place for a quick lunch or an early dinner with family I just had to write a review to get Garcia's rating up. I realize that Garcia's really isn't anything special. But it is good and I always enjoy eating there.

1 to 2 stars. Having just moved here from Tucson, we were hopeful that good Mexican food would be found at Garcia's. Nada! Nice atmosphere, service ok, generally appeared clean, but chimi was marginal, soft, not crispy and peculiar flavor and husbands chili relleno was sub par. We went several weeks later, hoping that our first experience was a fluke, but that was not the case. This time the service was also sub par... We won't go back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
